Rabbit monsters

Now that Easter holidays have started, I want to mention some of the rabbit monsters and creatures. In ancient Egypt, there was Bak-en-Mut, a demon hare guardian. The goddess Wenet is rabbit headed, and called "the swift one", seen sitting beside a cobra and a crocodile in a fragment in The Book of the Dead. Wenet is guardian of the entrance to the Underworld, as mentioned in The Book of Thoth

Jackalopes are rabbits with antlers. Believed to be extinct, this is a cross between an antlered deer and a killer rabbit. They can imitate humans voices, as first reported by cowboys during the Old West. Many reports of jackalopes have been seen across the USA mostly in Wyoming. Sceptics believe that the creatures are actually disease infected rabbits with papillomatosis that causes hornlike growths on a rabbit's head.

A similar creature to the Jackalope is the Wolpertinger, seen in the alpine forests and southern Germany. This creature has wings, antlers, fangs and a long bushy tail.

Medieval drawings and art depict people getting attacked violently by large evil rabbits. To see a gallery of these ferocious images go and visit Dangerous Minds page "Attack of the killer rabbits!" HERE.

The rabbit or hare is a trickster figure in various folklore around the world. In Native American tales, there are rabbits who bring about the end of the world after destroying the sun. For more info on these incredible tales, visit Terri Windling article "The Folklore of rabbits and hares" .

Have a nice day!
