Halloween scary stories

Halloween has many chilling and scary stories to tell in the dark. Some may be true personal experiences and others are urban legends or creepy pastas. I will share as much as I can while it's dark.

"The ghost house" is often mentioned during sleep-overs and around campfires at night. It's about some kids going out Trick or Treating and they had a good fun time, then remember an interesting house, It was decorated with Halloween displays and props, even though the house itself looked quaint, gothic, old fashioned and even a bit rundown. They were greeted by a pleasant owner who seemed very quiet. The next day, the kids decided to pay the house a visit just to thank the home owner but there was no house where they were sure it stood there the night before on Halloween. They could never find the house again. They later heard that there was once a house that stood in the neighbourhood that was demolished decades earlier because it was a ruin. A fire damaged the property and the home owner died.

"The disappearing child" is about a group of kids going Trick or Treating in a quiet dark area. They later come across a particular house and greeted by a girl dressed as a ghost. She kindly gave them a lot of sweets. The group soon leaves and when they turn back, they notice that the girl isn't there anymore. It was later on they heard that the house is abandoned and derelict, no one lives there and certainly no children live there.

Most paranormal stories of Halloween are scary and have origins from internet forums. Other types of Halloween scary stories are not paranormal but involves criminal and dangerous activities. There is a case of a man who answered the door to a Trick or Treater, only for them to fling acid in his face for a joke. The man suffered minor injuries but he never answered the door to anyone during Halloween again after that. Also a woman who gave dog biscuits and wool to Trick or Treaters because she felt they shouldn't be doing it. Some tales of candies and sweets being laced with poison or filled with sharp objects are based on some true crimes.

On Reddit many people share unsettling weird experiences on Halloween night. Someone shared an experience they had when aged 8 years old. Their parents decided to go out Trick or Treating while leaving their child at home. The night became frightening when a number of adults in costumes harassed the kid for refusing to answer the door, and the police were called. When the parents returned, they refused to believe their child.

Have a good Halloween!

October ghosts

October is a very special time for celebrating ghosts and other spooky things, when the veil is lifted. This month is filled with stories and true encounters of the paranormal, I've selected a few to mention here. Enjoy reading!

A 15th century castle is a place of regular haunts every Halloween. Located in Aberdeenshire the castle is now a hotel called MacDonald Pittodrie House. Ghostly screaming and crying has been heard on the staircase every Halloween. It's believed to be from a maid who perished during a fire that happened there. There's been reports of unknown smells of smoke and burning, strange running footsteps and sightings of a girl with flaming red hair who falls down the stairs. The library is haunted by regular spirits, and a phantom coach with spectral horses appears outside.

There is a mysterious Halloween legend of a stone that floats in the air every Halloween night. The site is known as Deil's Cradle, found at a glen in Dollar, Clackmannanshire, which is believed the Devil sits on the stone surrounded by witches. The stone levitates until sunrise the following morning.

The woods of Tuamgraney of County Clare is full of eerie creatures, especially during Halloween. The place becomes sinister with multiple entities, including demon hounds such as Black Shuck, a spectral cat and a vicious ram with red eyes beating regular deer. Local people avoid going into the woods during Halloween as they're afraid of the Beasts of Tuamgraney Woods.

At a crossroads in Great Maplestead in Essex, is the location of a witch's grave. Her name was Polly Mills and she died at a castle lake. They buried her at the crossroads of the village. Every Halloween,  fresh flowers appear at her grave.

In Whitby, North Yorkshire, a magical event is believed to happen. Part of legendary folklore, if you stand near the rock of Black Nab during Halloween,  call out the name of your true love. The wind itself will respond and echo the name of your true love, and the sound of bells coming from underwater, where a ship carrying bells from an abbey sank.

In North Shields, a werewolf sighting in an area now called Smith's Dockyards. There is a man who appears in the form of a large black canine who patrols the area during Halloween at night. Who was he? It's a tragic story of a sailor who became lost at sea, then found his way home after many years passed, but his parents didn't recognise him and murdered him. The ghost of the sailor returns there in the form of a wolf/dog.

Thirlmere hauntings

There is a recurring haunting that happens each October on the night of Halloween. It happens at Thirlmere Lake, found in Cumbria and in the area of the Lake District. The lake itself is a location of strange mysteries. Nearby on land is Armbroth Fell, an ancient site with eerie sounds of church bells that come from long lost churches that don't exist there anymore.

This occurs every Halloween night. Some have pinpointed the direction of the sounds of church bells to be coming from underneath the nearby lake Thirlmere! It's believed that there was once a hamlet called Armbroth that got submerged when the reservoir was created in the 1880's. Another hamlet called Wythburn was submerged during the flooding in the area, but only Wythburn Church was the only building that remained. People of the hamlets abandoned their homes before the flooding. Certain ruins can still be visible, such as a summerhouse and a crumbling road. Drought in Summer can cause low water levels and reveal the hamlets.

It was during the 19th century when locals in the hamlets of Armbroth and Wythburn opposed to the plan to flood the area to make a reservoir. Their voices were of concern because It was decided to go ahead with it, causing everyone to leave. The spirits and other weird entities remain.

Also submerged was Armbroth Hall, once located at Wythburn. There is a lady in white, believed to be the ghost of a bride who drowned before her wedding. It's said that she died on Halloween, and her spirit appears every Halloween along with the sounds of church bells. The bride is believed to have been the daughter of the owner of Armbroth House.

A phantom black dog swims in the water, adding to it's creepiness. The black dog spectre and the haunting sound of church bells, along with unknown shrieks and glowing corpse candles in the windows is all the events on Halloween. There is much more too. A phantom castle appears then vanishes the closer you get. There's a ghost army and a phantom horseman is seen also, wearing a long cloak that trails behind him as he rides. Some believe that he was once a landowner who was murdered, and his ghost is out riding every Halloween searching for his killer.

Thirlmere Lake has a cryptid named Shore Boggle, with smelly matted long fur, razor sharp claws and glowing red eyes. It can stand upright on two legs and terrified the witnesses. Such a thing was mentioned in local newspapers but hasn't been seen since the 1930's. A cool site to visit for Halloween!

Haunted La Mussara

One of the most scariest places to visit in Europe over Halloween is haunted La Mussara. Located in the hills of Catalonia of northern Spain, La Mussara is a ruined ghost town. A thick fog envelopes the abandoned town regularly, and it's believed that the local cemetery is full of buried witches. The empty houses and looming church gives that creepy vibe similar to stepping into a horror film.

Halloween in Spain is celebrated for three days. It begins on 31st October with Day of the Witches but later there is Night of the Pumpkins. Followed by All Saints Day, and then Day of the Dead. There's many traditions of pumpkin carvings, costumes, trick-or-treating and feasts. Described as a children's event, it also recognises this is a time honouring the ancestors.

On 16th October 1991, a group of friends visited La Mussara. Among them was a man named Enrique Martinez who went off to pick mushrooms. The friends noticed Enrique was unnerved by a "shadowy figure" watching them from the ruins but they didn't see it. Soon Enrique touched a stone and a strange mist appeared, along with an increased sound of croaking frogs. Enrique then simply vanished into thin air in front of them. The alarmed friends contacted authorities about their missing friend, and soon there was a search party but no trace of him was ever found. To this day there's still no sign of Enrique.

The stone that Enrique touched is called The Stone of Six, which is believed to have magic powers. Some say that it's a portal to another dimension. Ancient warriors used this stone to help guide through the region. It's believed this stone is much older than the ghost town itself.

Full moon October werewolf

Full moons will bring a sample of werewolf lore starting with this October 2025. The full moon is here and it's also a harvest moon and a supermoon or BLOOD MOON. This means one thing: Werewolves

Here is an interesting Roman legend of the Versipellis werewolves. The name Versipellis is Latin and it basically means "turning skin" or turnskin. Werewolves were cursed creatures to change at the full moon. They would go to experience natural physical changes, as the Versipellis could transform painlessly. Sometimes the Versipellis could change spiritually, as their mind and soul would become werewolves. They used magical herbs and potions to control their shapeshifting. These werewolves are similar to lycanthropy and much of the descriptions involves the mind. Some would've been linked to darker magic using powerful spells as they were sinister and dangerous creatures.

Also the Versipellis werewolf wasn't simply a natural looking wolf as it didn't appear to look like this but was scary and nightmarish. The Versipellis resembled a huge monster, a bipedal canine, almost a cross of human and wolf. As if the werewolves could walk and think like humans but with many wolf features but far more bigger and chilling. The imagery of them are upright walking with humanlike arms and hands with claws, thick fur and canine noses and fangs. They could blend into the night and hide there, as they were imposing, always taller than human adults, making their big size completely terrifying.

It's not a good time to meet one of those Versipellis! So do stay indoors during the full moon.

Spooky quicks October 2025

Hi and big howling for October. To start off the month with some recent unexplained news related stories, some weird and bizarre things that happened.

A strange ball of hair fell from the sky. It landed in a field by Puerto Tirol, Argentina. The object resembles a massive hairy eyeball, but it's really a piece of debris from a Space X mission that broke off. The hair covering the metallic lump is fibre caused by glass heating up when entering the Earth's atmosphere. Space junk at it's most ludicrous! Have a look for yourself!

A video clip has been making lots of enthusiastic UFO fans excited. It features an unidentified flying object moving in the air, which also happens to resemble a person! It's been nicknamed "the witch" by the person who filmed it. The footage from France has been very popular. To watch the clip and judge for yourself go to Youtube: The flying witch

There's a legend of the Devil's Lagoon, which is believed to carry a ghost. Located in Willacy County, Texas. It's believed that if you spend the night there, you can hear the sounds of phantom horses and wheels of a carriage that isn't there. It was taken up by several teenagers who dared listen one night. However, it wasn't a ghost that shocked them but a gunman who pulled up in a car. Ghost hunting has many dangers! For that go here on Valley Central News.

Now the next full moon (Harvest Moon) will appear on Tuesday, October 7th 2025. This will be a supermoon, which is the biggest and brightest moon of the year. As the supermoon rises, also in the sky will be visible Saturn visible and then both Jupiter and Venus shine later.
