Buck moon

July full moon will appear on Thursday, 10th July 2025 at evening. The July full moon is called a Buck Moon, named after male deer's behaviour this time of the year. Each year male deer shed their old antlers and during July is when they grow new antlers. Other names for the July full moon is Thunder Moon, as this is when there's more thunderstorms during hotter season. This year's Buck Moon will be especially different though because it will appear low on the horizon. The July Buck moon is the most furthest away from the sun.

Another interesting detail about this year's Buck Moon is the position in the sky amongst stars, in the middle of a star constellation Sagittarius, located in the asterism called the Teapot. It would look like the moon is low on the horizon at the Teapot pattern, which may be difficult to see from the UK and Europe.

In folklore it's believed that those werewolves born in July's full moon will grow to have white fur and they're regarded as "ghost wolves."
