The Tatzelwurm is a legendary creature from the Alpine regions of central Europe. It's described as being a type of dragon, looking like a serpent, a feline chimera or an Asian dragon. The beast known as a Tatzelwurm has got four stunted limbs, a long snake-like body covered in scales and a catlike face. It hisses or makes highly pitched noises, whistles and shrieks. The monster's venomous breathe can kill. The name itself "Tatzelwurm" is Swiss to mean tunnel dragon. In Austria it's known as Bergstutz "Mountain stump" and in the French alps it's called "arassas", the "cat headed" lizard.
Monsters fitting the description were reported in various regions about the alps, many during the 17th century. More sightings happened in the 18th century and a farmer suffered a heart attack after witnessing two of these beasts. During the 19th century, a school teacher reported seeing one but there were some who also said they found one dead, but there was a bounty of finding them. Some said the Tatzelwurm drank milk from the udders of cows, so they placed a white rooster near the cows that warded off the dragon.
It didn't disappear, as some claimed a Tatzelwurm skeleton was found and sent to the Geneva Institute of Science in the 1900's. During the mid 20th century, a Swiss photographer claimed he'd taken a picture of the Tatzelwurm although many think it's a hoax. A girl working on a farm in Switzerland found a home in the ground of a Tatzelwurm, that appeared greyish and snakelike with two front legs and it was the size of a domestic cat.
