There was a very strange event that happened in a place called Joplin on 22nd May, 2011. It was almost like something out of a fantasy novel. One could think of many similar stories from "Wizard of Oz" to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" but this incident was that and more.
Joplin is in Jasper County, Missouri, and a prosperous town with a mining industry, also famous for it's criminal residents Bonnie and Clyde. What else happened there was far more deadly, such as the tornadoes that struck in 1971 and 2011. Many businesses, homes , school and even a hospital were destroyed. As many as 161 people lost their lives in the 2011 tornado, which happened during that fateful evening. Described as an EF5 tornado, (the largest size that a tornado can be), it was a monstrous storm and it was a nightmare.
It was after this tornado that it emerged that kids were talking about things they saw during the tornado. They claimed that "butterfly people" protected them from the dangerous storm. One child recounts seeing a shining butterfly person who appeared as the storm was approaching and saved her life. Many people dismiss all of that as childhood imagination or a mistake. Some claim the kids saw angels while others believe it was the Mothman cryptid. An artist visited Joplin and there heard tales of the Butterfly people. It was his project to help kids make mural pictures of the Butterfly people.
