Rebobs of Napa Valley

These are very strange cryptids, described as looking like winged monkeys. These are mainly in an area by Patrick Road, in the town of Napa Valley, a place known for it's vineyards and a striking fairy-tale castle Calistoga di Amorosa.

Napa Valley has less known creepy folklore, such as the Napa rebobs that is associated with Patrick Road, the location of the weird winged creatures. Most of the reports described rebobs as looking like flying monkeys, similar to the creatures in the "Wizard of Oz", while other descriptions of rebobs have them looking like bats. Some accounts have described them as being semi robotic, and even a source that rebobs look like walking plants.

It's believed that waiting inside your parked car at the side of Patrick Road will attract rebobs to emerge from their hiding places, within the woods and trees nearby, and jump on the vehicle. It's not clear where rebobs dwell, as some say it's in the trees, others say it's in the local cemetery. Rebobs are nasty and predatory. They've attacked young lovers. There's stories of them killing domestic animals and humans, but more chillingly are versions of rebobs eating children. These monstrous entities were first witnessed in the 1960's. People today recount experiences of seeing strange things moving in trees in that Napa section of Patrick Road and cemetery. Whoever saw them could not identify them except they had glowing red eyes. Who knows what these creatures are.

The house that isn't there

AI art by Rayne

There is a very unusual house that keeps appearing and disappearing. It's a type of mirage because it's visible and seen by many people although it vanishes as soon as someone gets too close to it. This is something that chills to the bone and an entire house itself is the ghost. What is it though and where is it? Located in a town called Rougham in Suffolk, England. The house is at a field between Bradley St George and Rougham Green. Described as a large red manor house in a Georgian style, complete with flowering gardens. The mysterious big house has been sighted by many people ever since Victorian times. It keeps materialising in the field, so that passers by in cars will notice it there. Visitors to the town as well as locals would've noticed the strange ghostly house.

In 1860, Mr Robert Palfrey was working outside in the field on a pleasant evening in June. The air suddenly turned cold and he looked up to see a large red Georgian house with a garden, that wasn't there just moments before. It soon disappeared, leading to more sightings. His account was one of the earliest reports. In 1912, James Cobbold, who was the great grandson of Mr Palfrey, with George Waylett, a local butcher, was riding a pony trap when they both saw the great ghost house. This happened when the warmth suddenly turned very cold, along with a whooshing sound, frightening the pony who reared up and flung off Mr Waylett who was unhurt. The large house became covered n mist and vanished soon afterwards. That was the third time George said he had seen the strange house.

In 1923 Ruth Wynne, a school teacher and one of her students were travelling on foot at the area of Church Road. They entered a wooded place and found a greenish yellow wall, that also had an iron gate, with a big stately house behind of it. She made a note of the place to find out more about it, Later she realised there was no record of a big house there, and on her return to the same vicinity to retrace her steps, there was no trace of the property, or the wall and its gate anymore. It was simply never there. Since then researchers discovered fragments of greenish yellow bricks that indicate something was there a very long time ago.

Many numerous reports of witnessing the house became part of local legend. However, most people who've seen it are often left feeling very upset, as was a girl in 1998 who lived at Rougham Green Rectory. She saw the ghost house of red brick and in Georgian style appear. It frightened her so much that she sought shelter in the nearest pub, and told everyone what she saw. In 2007 Jean Batram spoke to the local press about witnessing the spooky mysterious house. She was in a car with her husband Sidney when they saw the large house appear on Kingshall Street. Jean was amazed by the beauty of the house with a row of long windows and trees behind it. After speaking to people, they too had seen it. 18th century maps reveal that a large house might've stood in the area but it's not known why nothing remained and why no records about it were kept even in 1860.

Also weirder still are the temperature drops and the whooshing sound that accompany the house materialising from nowhere. It's also strange that the house appears in different locations around this place. Some more researchers discovered overgrown areas that showed something big used to exist up there. Also red bricks have been found although after some examination, it appears modern made and doesn't come from an earlier time. Many speculate that this house is in a strange portal and this means vanishing into another dimension, and then returning. The mystery is still unsolved.

Taxis and ghosts

"Three ghost girls in a taxi" by Rayne

A regular job such as a taxi driver is one of the most strangest with it's encounters with the paranormal. While many taxi drivers have a lot of interesting experiences, there are some with scary memories with ghosts. I shall post some of the stories from taxi drivers and also stories of taxi drivers.

There is a story that might either be based on a true experience from a taxi driver or it's a Creepy Pasta. The story is about a taxi driver who collected three girl passengers on a road in the city at night. They were young women who had flagged him down, and told him to take them to hospital. One of the women had severe stomach pains. The taxi driver drove to the nearest hospital, and the two other women told the driver to quickly get a doctor and they wanted to stay with their friend in the taxi. After entering the hospital the first person he spoke to was a nurse, who agreed to go and check up on the sick woman in the taxi. However, once the nurse had gone out to look, she didn't see any sign of the three women. Instead, she found only human remains in the back seat of the taxi. It turns out this belonged to three college girls who had all died in a fatal road accident, at the same place where the taxi driver found them.

Another story on Facebook about a taxi driver who chose to be anonymous. He was finishing his shift and it was almost midnight, when a woman flagged his car down. He reconsidered picking her up, as she was all by herself so late. In his good nature he would offer her a free ride. She wanted to go to "Dimsdale Avenue off Wart Street", which he recognised as a place near where he would refuel his taxi sometimes. The drive itself was awkward as the young woman seemed very quiet and distant. Despite this, she seemed very ill looking and her eyes were very blank. When he dropped her off at the place, he noticed the graveyard there. The woman commented about herself being dead, before exiting the taxi. The unnerving experience didn't end there because the taxi driver found out that a young woman who was recently buried in that same graveyard looked exactly like his strange passenger he met that night.

While phantom hitchhikers are very common, nothing is more regular as the ghost passengers in Ishinomaki, Japan. There are countless stories of taxi drivers picking up ghosts, who look like very real living people at the time. Yuka Kudo, a sociology student of Tohoku Gakuin University researched the subject after chatting to hundreds of taxi drivers in Ishinomaki. The place itself became extremely haunted soon after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster killing thousands of people. The ghosts were wearing winter season clothes, who hailed taxis and asked to go to locations that disappeared during that horrific disaster. Many of these ghost passengers were confused and didn't realise that the places they want to go to have now gone, while some disappear into thin air., Some of these ghostly passengers become aware of being dead soon after the taxi drivers tell them their destined locations no longer exist. This is why a lot of these type of ghost stories are sad and not scary.

Symbolism of Snow White

The famous story "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" by the Grimm Brothers has a lot of symbolism. While there are lots of articles about it, they focus on other tales and stories with a similar theme instead of the story itself. These are not just children's bedtime stories and also many people associate them with Disney films. The symbols in "Snow White" includes the poisoned apple, the number seven, the number three, mirror, glass coffin. The number three appears a lot. Snow White's mother wanted a child, and she was thinking about it when she accidently pricked her finger on the sewing needle. This is a symbol of conception. Three drops of blood fell onto the napkin she was sewing. She made a wish for a daughter to have three things, to be as white as snow with hair the colour of ebony and lips red as blood. White symbolises innocence and purity, even with the divine. We're told red means blood. Ebony is linked to the wood, as ebony trees are lucky and for protection. Later we learn she has a baby girl named Snow White and her wish was granted. This magical queen died in the traditional story, and was replaced by the stepmother, who became evil and cruel. Earlier on, and in some retellings, the first queen died and was reborn as the evil queen such as rebirth that again appears. Now the wicked queen tried to kill Snow White multiple times in the original story. The huntsman is ordered by the queen to kill Snow White and return her heart in a box. After Snow White flees and takes refuge with the home of the seven dwarfs, the evil queen learns about this and she attempts to kill Snow White again with three methods. Each time, she wears a disguise, first as a peddler woman selling laces, which she tightened around Snow White's waist and secondly she visits selling pretty combs that makes Snow White pass out.

Finally the queen disguises herself as an old woman selling red apples. Apples are symbolic of love and wisdom. A poisoned apple is the opposite, it symbolises death, destruction and jealousy. In myths, apples are forbidden fruits, such as the one in the Garden of Eden, banishing humanity after eating it, then the Apple of discord in Greek mythology that some believed started the Trojan War, in Norse mythology are the apples of goddess Hel that are also apples of death. In Celtic legend a man was turned into an apple and a young woman ate it and became pregnant, resulting in the birth of a hero. Snow White takes a fatal bite and isn't woken up. It's not clear how much time passed as she's buried in an open glass coffin so everyone can see her beauty. The prince arrives and manages to wake her. First of all, he accidentally knocks over the coffin, but soon this changed to him kissing her. There is the kiss of life with the jolt of awakening, bringing Snow White back from death.

The number three is symbolic of life, death and rebirth. It's believed to represent the divine aspect of triple gods and goddesses, and the number three appears in Christianity as the Holy Trinity, while other religions have the sacred number three, including rituals and acts done in threes. This figure 3 in the story represents those things especially life, death and rebirth of Snow White as she returns from the dead three times. The red apple that kills Snow White, is the same colour as blood that helped create her. Also her blood red lips biting the red blood apple is the connection. The prince kisses her on the lips to wake her, dislodging the piece of apple from her throat, undoing a spell. In a sense, the apple was the queen's weapon and it failed because Snow White was reborn. It's believed that the main characters represent good and evil, which is the powerful message we find in the story. Number seven is another sacred number that appears a lot, as there are seven dwarfs, who become the guardians and protect Snow White. It's considered to be a lucky number. There's 7 days of the week, seven chakras, seven colours of the rainbow, seven sisters stars and seven wonders of the world.

That was my view on the symbolism of Snow White. I shall do more on other fairy tales later. Check out reading more on a similar topic: Book The Wisdom of Fairy Tales by Robert Meyer

Cryptid story short

There is a mounted head of a strange creature that has been on display in a public house for well over 200 years.  It's named Egopantis, which was hunted down in the 18th century after a long time of frightening local people living in the area. It happened in the village of Shirley, Massachusetts, when this large creature from the nearby woods appeared. It often roared and threatened people until Captain Nathaniel Smith shot it. The head of the egopantis was put on the wall of the tavern, and it still remains there to this day. It can be seen at the Bull Run Restaurant. And still today no one knows what it really is exactly.

Cryptid news May

AI generated image source Pixabay

To be really honest, there's been a lot of new cryptids being reported but I have just been hand picking the main articles to feature here once a month. So it's May and already there's been yet another story coming from Loch Ness.

A Canadian family on holiday in Loch Ness saw something in the water near Urquhart Castle, that looked like a head. It appeared dark coloured and soon swam over still with its head visible, but then it went under and vanished. I'm not altogether sure what it is, but this could be anything. When people visit the Loch Ness site, they always expect to see a monster in the lake, but this means taking pictures of anything that moves there, which may turn out to be driftwood, a duck, seal or even a snake. I'm not saying this picture isn't of the Loch Ness Monster, it could be anything and even something else unknown. Link on Twitter HERE

Also on the subject of the Loch Ness Monster, the group running the Loch Ness Monster Centre have invited NASA to search for the unknown creature in the lake! More info of that story found HERE at Sky News.

Meanwhile in England's South Down's have been scary reports of a biped hairy monster, described as a "Bigfoot" type that was heard growling. Mike Brown was among the fishermen who encountered it and said: "I felt incredibly on edge and it was a feeling I can honestly say I had never experienced before or since. It really was as if something was watching me and I was not welcome." Another eye witness named Michael Brindle heard growling, then saw a very large entity running at speed on two legs. He then said "The hairs on my arms (stood up)." Find this story at the Daily Star HERE.
